We are always pleased to hear from anyone interested in singing with us. At present we are actively recruiting tenors and basses.
Ex Urbe is an auditioned Chamber Choir, working on a relatively tight rehearsal schedule. We expect singers to prepare independently and arrive at rehearsals already secure on pitch and rhythm, so that rehearsal time can focus on ensemble, text, tuning and musical shaping rather than note-learning.
Our usual procedure for singers interested in joining is for you to attend a rehearsal with us, so that we can both see if we suit each other. After this, our director will ask you to take a brief audition, hopefully before confirming your place.
Ex Urbe has two concert weekends, in May and September, when we perform the same concert twice, on the Saturday evening and the Sunday afternoon. We also have a Christmas concert on the first Saturday in December.
We rehearse monthly, alternating Saturdays and Sundays, from 10.30 – 16.30. We have four or five rehearsals before each concert weekend. Members are encouraged to attend all rehearsals before each concert and if they have to miss more than one rehearsal before a concert weekend to discuss with the Musical Director about remaining in the forthcoming concert.
