Benjamin Hamilton

Benjamin’s aim is to bring high-quality musical experiences to all, both audience members and performers alike. He trains with Paul McGrath (English Touring Opera) and Toby Purser (English National Opera) and is mentored by Mark Heron of the Royal Northern College of Music.
Benjamin is a strategic arts leader, having initiated and led a wide range of artistic projects as conductor, translator and facilitator. Recent work includes translating and conducting Carmen for the Warwick Arts Centre and an award- nominated translation of Don Giovanni for Hampstead Garden Opera. Benjamin is a Springboard Artist at the Belgrade Theatre where his opera company, HighTime, is in residence. He is Head of Boys Singing at King Henry VIII School and is also the Musical Director of Hampton Singers, B:Music Workplace Voices and Cheshire Fire and Rescue Choir. He holds a PhD from the University of Warwick.

In September 2016 he was appointed Choral Director for Warwickshire Choristers, an organisation whose aim is to imbue a love of singing in all boys for life. This is achieved through the support and development of open access countywide choirs for boys from primary age through to young adult.

Benjamin specialises in forgotten works by overlooked composers.  Recent engagements include “Opera in a Day” – English National Ballet; two commissions for Royal Ballet and “Opera Family Sundays” as well as a recording for Radio 3.

A gifted translator, he has produced award-winning opera adaptations including “Die Fledermaus” for Hackney Empire.

Coming soon is a recording of Ethel Smyth’s final opera “Entente Cordiale”.
