Ex Urbe is a chamber choir which draws its members from across the West Midlands,
The choir began more than 25 years ago with a group of friends from the City of Birmingham Symphony Chorus wanting to sing chamber music.
We continue to have strong local links, drawing members from across the West Midlands, many of whom sing with other regional choirs. We rehearse and perform predominantly across the Midlands in such places as Solihull, Knowle, Hampton in Arden, Dorridge and further afield by invitation.
We share a love of small ensemble singing, working to create a sound that reflects both the hard work and the pleasure of doing this together.
Performances often include other talented musicians from the area.
Our repertoire extends from early chamber music – Tallis, Byrd, Bach, Hildegard de Bingen – through the Baroque and Classical eras – into 20th and 21st Century works.
Recent performances have included: Handel Dixit Dominus; Haydn Missa Brevis; Britten Hymn to St Cecilia / Ceremony of Carols; Brahms German Requiem; English Choral Music, including Purcell, Holst, Vaughan Williams, Howells and Walton; European Sacred Music, including Palestrina, Tallis and Byrd.
